Each year, millions of Americans suffer from temporomandibular (TMJ) joint and muscle disorders. These disorders are also usually called TMJ disorders and they can cause severe pain in the jaw area, as well as in other parts of the body like our head, neck, face, and shoulders. A TMJ disorder is a dysfunction in either one or both of the jaw joins, and can also involve the different muscles that control jaw movement. While TMJ disorders can affect anyone of any age, it has been observed to be more common in women than in men.
